In commemoration of International Youths Day 2023 , the NotTooYoungLead initiative Sirria Leone collaborated with other youth led organisations to engage and equip 200 young citizens on governance, leadership and green skills development at the freetown city hall.
The Country Director of Not too young to lead initiative Sierra Leone Amb. Alie Conteh who presented certificates of participation to the young leaders at the conference, charged the youths to play a role in the future they want for their country .
In the heart of this event was the commitment to equipping the attendees with the knowledge and skills needed to champion change in their communities. Workshops on governance enlightened them about their rights, responsibilities, and the mechanisms that drive effective decision-making. The leadership sessions stirred their ambitions, fostering a deep understanding that age is not a barrier to driving meaningful change.
However, the essence of the event wasn’t confined to traditional leadership and governance alone. Not Too Young to Lead recognized the importance of sustainable development in today’s world. The “green skills development” component was a testament to their dedication to nurturing environmentally conscious leaders. Hands-on activities, ranging from urban gardening to waste management innovations, empowered the youth to be advocates for a greener future.
The Freetown City Hall bore witness to the birth of a powerful network. Young individuals connected, shared aspirations, and planted the seeds of collaboration that will grow into impactful initiatives. The event’s vibrancy was infectious, leaving a trail of inspiration that will reverberate across Sierra Leone for years to come.
When we think of other peoples lives as linked to our own, our empathy grows. They’ve demonstrated an amazing ability to help build a brighter and better future for our country.
